Mission Statement and Goals
Lulu Blair Kress Preschool provides every individual the power to succeed in a safe and nurturing school environment.
Lulu Blair Kress Preschool (Kress) is a State Preschool funded through the California Department of Education, Early Education and Support Division. We target children who are three to five (3 to 5) years old, with four year olds having the first priority for spaces in the classes.
Kress offers families an opportunity to provide their children with an early start to an interactive education. The family and school work together for the benefit of the child. Our goals and philosophy are to provide children, staff and parents with training and education in sound nutritional principles in order to promote good family health, to enable parents to seek and utilize available services for their families, to provide assistance for on-going health services for their children and families and to make needed or requested referrals to other agencies. We offer a full service. Our staff is prepared to answer all your questions regarding your child’s needs, and to offer solid help to the entire family through various community agencies we have access to.
The Kress Preschool staff is fully qualified. Our teachers are required by the California Department of Education to have a Child Development Teacher Permit. All of our staff is working to further their education and experience to provide a safe, appropriate physical environment both inside and outside the classroom. We are mandatory child abuse reporters.
This program does not discriminate on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, gender, ethnic group identification, race, ancestry, national origin, religion, color, or mental or physical disability in determining which children are served. Kress serves a variety of families with diverse cultural beliefs and practices. We refrain from religious instruction or worship. We welcome the enrollment of children with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Law.
Kress participates in the Child Care Food Program. All children in attendance are offered the same meals at no charge with no physical segregation of or other discrimination against any child because of race, color, national origin, age, sex or any handicap. This program is non-religious and there is no instruction in any religion.
The school curriculum is taught in the English language. The preschool utilizes Houghton Mifflin Pre-K, as prescribed by the School Board. This is an excellent preschool curriculum. It is anti-biased and children learn a respect of all people.
Active parent involvement at Kress is very important. We have an open door policy to encourage parents to volunteer in the classrooms. For any parent wishing to volunteer, please contact us because we must have a “Public School Volunteer Criminal Records Check” application on file. Free childcare is provided for evening meetings. Parent/Teacher Conferences are an ongoing process. All student files are open to inspection by parents, and by other authorized persons.
Birthdays are celebrated at Kress, with parent permission. Children are invited to decorate a birthday crown and they can wear the crown at school on their birthday. At Meeting Time the child is invited to come to the front of the class, and the teacher and children sing a Birthday song to the child. Everyone applauds and cheers.
